Dunkin’ is making Spring a little bit sweeter with the release of their brand new seasonal donuts. In honor of the launch, our club did a taste test of nine donut flavors. This included both some new releases and some classics.

STRAWBERRY FROSTED
The strawberry frosted donut is a classic; its flavorful and fruity frosting makes it one to stick around. We all agreed that strawberry frosted is a crowd favorite, though maybe a little too sweet to be the perfect dessert.

COTTON CANDY
The cotton candy donut had a vibrant and sweet filling in the center. Its colorful sprinkles on the outside gave the donut a nice crunch. I was impressed with how much it truly tasted like cotton candy. This donut gets extra points for looking pretty.

BOSTON CREAM
None of us had tried the traditional boston cream donut before, so we were excited to see what the rave is about. The donut itself was light and fluffy, a yes from the club members. The filling was fine, but we could have done without it. This donut was nothing too special.

DOUBLE CHOCOLATE
Not just chocolate glazed or frosted, but double chocolate. The moist and aesthetically pleasing cake topped with a rich chocolate frosting brings the whole donut together. This was definitely on the heavier side, but if you’re a big chocolate fan then this donut might be for you.

BLUEBERRY
Usually blueberry isn’t a flavor I would gravitate towards. However, for the sake of this taste test I decided to try it, and I'm glad I did. The classic glaze paired with the cakey donut was the perfect combo. The blueberry taste was there but not overpowering. The club came to the consensus that we’d probably still opt for a blueberry muffin instead, but this donut was a pleasant surprise.

MAPLE FROSTED
This exciting addition to the menu is quickly becoming a new fan favorite. It managed to tie together the classic donut while adding the rich flavor of maple syrup. Some found the taste a bit sickly, so you really either hate or love this donut. In my opinion, this is the perfect breakfast treat.

JELLY FILLED
Next up was the jelly filled. The powdered donut itself was nice, but I didn’t feel the sticky, sugary jelly went along well with it. Nevertheless, this donut continues to be a go-to for many, so it must be doing something right.

BUTTERNUT
This donut was the opposite of a crowd favorite. Butternut isn't your typical, sugary donut; despite its uniqueness it struggled to gain appreciation. While this donut might appeal to some, everyone except Mr. Bollag-Miller wasn’t a fan of the nutty and crunchy taste of this donut.

POWDERED
Powdered was outshined by the jelly powdered donut, but it still sparkled in its own ways. The majority of the club preferred the jelly filled donut to this one. The plain powdered felt a bit underwhelming, but we still enjoyed it.
Overall, our top picks were the cotton candy donut and the blueberry as a close second. We definitely recommend these if you find yourself in a Dunkin’ before the spring specials leave!
