Food Review: The Broadway in South Boston

This past weekend, my friends and I visited The Broadway in South Boston. This restaurant had a variety of dishes, but I knew which one we had to try. When we arrived, we were seated right away and I immediately noticed the fun and lively atmosphere. The scene was filled with a mix of people; many coming from work and others grabbing a quick dinner with their friends like us! When the time came to order, we decided to get three dishes to share! We got the caesar salad pizza, cacio e pepe mac n' cheese, and their grilled chicken. We also got their focaccia bread to start. After we ordered, we eagerly waited for our food to arrive. The air was filled with a crisp scent of deliciousness and we knew our food was going to be nothing short of amazing! 

First, our bread arrived. If you’ve never tried focaccia bread before, I can confidently say you’re missing out. Focaccia is everything you’d want in a snack or a side. It's soft and fluffy on the inside but golden and slightly crisp on the outside. We dipped it in olive oil, which enhanced its coating of sea salt and herbs. Its rich and savory flavor is hard to beat, especially when it's warm! Next, our main dishes came out. We first tried the caesar salad pizza, the long-awaited, tiktok famous dish that everyone raves about. To put it simply, it soared above my expectations. It might sound strange, but the combination of these two foods is surprisingly awesome. Imagine a thin-crust pizza with a light layer of caesar dressing, then right on top is the perfect amount of a chilled caesar salad topped with melted parmesan. The cool crunch of the salad on top of the warm, chewy crust is weirdly perfect. Honesty, this would replace my usual cheese pizza if more places sold it.

Next, I tried the cacio e pepe mac n' cheese. This dish, solely made with pasta, black pepper and a generous amount of cheese, was outstanding. Don't be fooled by its simplicity, though. Cacio e pepe from The Broadway is the type of dish that feels fancy and homey at the same time. It's not overloaded, or drowning in fancy sauces- it's just simply really, really good. Then, I tried a bite of the grilled chicken which unfortunately, was not my favorite. It was a little too dry, lacked flavor, and honestly did not meet my expectations of that classic, delicious taste. It might have needed some more time on the grill or a little more sauce, but either way, it left me wishing I ordered something else. Thankfully, The Broadway was able to redeem themselves from the dry chicken with their dessert menu. My friends and I shared the chocolate whiskey cake. The cake was small but mighty, it is an absolute must-try if you go here. Every bite feels like a perfect balance between sweet and smokey. This cake was bursting with a rich chocolate flavor and made me want to savor every bite. Needless to say, not a crumb was left on the plate. 

If you’ve never been to The Broadway, you have to go. If you’re looking to spice up your meals with something new and delicious, I definitely recommend giving these dishes a try. My overall experience there was 10/10 and it was so worth it!! So go, treat yourself and definitely get the caesar salad pizza!
