My name is Emme Cohen. I am a current junior and with our incredible senior leaders Hannah Sender (25’) and Addison Oken (25’) saying their goodbyes to Beaver and hello to college, the rising editor of The Beaver Reader. This upcoming year will be my third year on the staff. If you are reading this, I encourage you to join next year too.

A few reasons to join:

  • Write about what you want–article topics are picked entirely by you

  • All writing can be done during club meetings, no outside work required

  • A laid back environment. Our articles are casual and meant to be enjoyable for both the reader to read and the writer to write

  • We do food reviews… for example, our recently published donut taste test written by Zoe Wyett (29’) and Kylie Marcus (29’)

You don’t have to consider yourself a writer to be a part of the newspaper. The Beaver Reader is a great way to strengthen your writing skills, but there are lots of other roles you could fill. Some other options include taking pictures for the website, running the clubs social media pages, working on graphic design, starting a podcast, or practically anything else you can think of.

Additionally, you don’t have to be a member of the club to have your work published. We encourage you to submit your pieces on our website under Your Voice to see your writing on the website. You can also share topics you would like to see us cover in our articles.

Our club has had a fantastic 24’-25’ school year. At the start of the year we created a new website (what you are currently reading this on) to make for a more accessible reading experience that is simultaneously pleasing to the eye. Then, we worked on making our Instagram page, @beavereader, more active. We now post an update every time we publish a new article to keep everyone in the loop. Make sure to follow so you don’t miss any new articles.

Some of our article highlights this year have included Winter At Snowport: A Pop-Up Market in the Heart of Boston written by Zoe Wyett and Kylie Marcus, Addison Okens Spotlight on Ms. Ellman, and BookTok: A Complex Community by Kate Lagatta.

If you have any suggestions for what The Beaver Reader should change, keep the same, or cover next year, please let us know. I hope to see and hear from you next year!
